SHOULD OBESITY DRUGS BE USED AS THE LAST RESORT?

It has been said that the Australian experts who attended the public meeting title "Obesity - Are Drugs The Answer" in Sydney expressed their opinions that drugs can combat the obesity problem and should only be used as the last resort after all the weight loss strategies have failed to bring the desired results. Am sure you have noticed that there are lots of diet pills, weight loss pills, pills that are called fat burners, herbal pill e.t.c, promising to help shift fat and those promising to burn fat much faster. These drugs may be miracle drugs for some fat people but for others it is a nightmare in the sense that this same miracle pills have done more harm than good to their bodies and system.

Even a pharmacologist from the university of NSW called Professor Magaret Morris has told us that using drugs to treat obesity are not right for everybody and that it should be used sensibly and be carefully followed up.

Although other experts have indicated that drugs can play a role in tackling weight problems and should only be used after every other alternative has failed to work for people who are extremely fat.

Now looking at the information forwarded by Drug manufacturers & Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) which has revealed that weight loss drugs can lead to anxiety, high blood pressure, Insomnia, Impotence, nausea and headache. If these drugs can cause so many problems to the body why should it be introduced at all to help combat obesity. Nobody wants to develop high blood pressure or become impotent after losing weight.

I believe adopting a new eating style that promotes weight loss such as reducing your total calorie intake by eating more fruits and vegetables and also exercising regularly will be much more better and safer.

Ways to suppress your appetite.

APPETITE SUPPRESSION! Mmmmm....I know you are wondering now if it is possible to suppress your appetite without munching a thing or two, well just follow this steps and see how easy it is.

First of all, you need to ask yourself whether it is healthy to suppress your appetite because you may be used to hearing of treatment for loss of appetite and not suppression. Appetite needs to be suppressed when it begins to pose a health risk to you in such a way that you believe and know fully well you are increasing every day by day in size and have been clinically diagnosed to be obesed . A lot of people feel frustrated with weight loss programs. It can go on and on and yet no real results are palpable which further worsens the frustration.

Although the major problem of suppressing appetite is malnourishment. Following a suppressed appetite, you do not eat a much as you normally do and in some cases you may even begin to eat less that your body actually requires for maintenance. When this happens, the body is deficient in most essential nutrients and become susceptible to infections and this can be quite dangerous.

So the question now is how then can you suppress appetite safely?

1. Learn to eat smaller meals and Plenty Water- The essence of this is to keep the stomach filled. Instead of eating three larger meals, replace them with several smaller meals. This is then topped with large amounts of water. For example drink up to 1.5 liters of water with every meal. Believe me it works very well because I do it myself. I drinking large quantities of water and other plain fluids and it has never done me any harm and make sure you do this before during and after meals.

When you drink ½ a liter of water before a meal, you have already suppressed your appetite because the stomach expands and that feeling of fullness will make you eat less. Do this about 10-20 minutes before food.

Take another ½ liter during the meal. This one allows you to stop eating soon enough.

Another ½ a liter after meal ensures that you stay feeled for long without thinking about food. This is the most cost effective method of suppressing your appetite. If you do feel hungry just before the time to eat reach for a glass of water instead.

2. Eat a lot of Salad- Another way to suppressed appetite is by eating salad just before a meal. You may also eat salad if you feel hungry before it is time for your next meal. It has the ability to feel your stomach and prevents hunger due to the high fiber contents of salad.
Make sure you avoid high calorie diet when hungry- When you are really hungry you may want to stay off high calorie diet at that time because of the likelihood of eating more than what your body needs or can take in..

3. Fruits should be regular feature in your diet- Always reach out for apples, pineapples, carrots, guavas, oranges and grapes. Nothings keep you as satisfied as fruits. If you are a diabetic make sure you consult your doctor before indulging yourself in any type of fruit

And lastly, never Skip Breakfast- Skipping breakfast makes us very hungry in the afternoon leading to excessive eating. So if you are use to eating in the morning, you are less likely to eat too much later on in the day.

Why are you so fat?

Why are you fat? This is a question most fat people are able to answer but are really shying away from the fact that their quest to lose some weight if you are interested, will not see the light until they identify why they are fat in the first instance and then work to avoid all the identified reasons. Right from the beginning, a lot of fat people do not want to accept that they are fat and usually gets angry if anyone makes an observation or starts calling them names, well as you can see there is no hiding place for a fat person.

The thing is, when you finally admit that you are fat, do you just say ‘okay, I know am fat and there is nothing I can do about it and then continue to eat and eat without giving a damn about what people say or your health, or do you take up the challenge and start doing something about it?

So why are you fat?

Usually a lot of fat victims make excuses like “I eat at wrong times of the day, at the wrong quantities. I have 3 kids; I run a business that takes away all the time and could have exercised. Between the business and my three kids’ daily activities at school that I volunteer at,I really don't find the time to make sure I eat right or cook the right food blah blah blah.
But I make sure my children eat well though. While they're eating, It is either that I'm cleaning, or getting ready, or cleaning up spilt milk, etc. Sometimes I miss meals, when it is time for me to eat; I eat it really big because I am really very hungry by then. I know what I am doing is wrong but what do I do because I am really helpless?” Well I can say such person is not helpless but very good at giving excuses.

Others may come up with stories like stories; “I don't drink enough fluids, when I do, its usually coffee, but I gag on water, I've tried checking this myself, and I am almost succeeding, I'm down to a coke every other day, and that is about 4 bottles a week, instead of everyday, though I still have my coffee. But now I'm up to two bottles of water a day....however, either way, still not enough fluids at all right?” Wait a minute, did you just say you gag on water but don't gag on coke or coffee well you must be kidding, are they not both liquids or is it because one is so sweet and sugary and the other is just plain and tasteless. All I can say is that heaven help those that help themselves.

Some people have failed to realise that enough fluid is alright but not when the fluid is coffee and coke. A bottle of coke is said to contain about 8 cubes of sugar and coffee doesn’t just contain caffeine that affects your nerves when you grow older but also increases your cholesterol level and this doesn’t matter whether it is decaff or not.

Another excuse people give themselves. “I was too busy working and wasn’t eating enough then I became anemic. I wouldn't be if I was eating properly. If I really wanted to eat well I could probably have worked out a schedule to make sure I eat the right things at the right times. Now the doctor wants me to eat more but I am now fat trying to do what the doctor said. I have tried to cut out the soda, and focus more on water, and I do some light walking as I was not supposed to get involved in very strenuous physical activities as at then. How do I loss weight without becoming anemic again?” This is just a funny excuse because at first you complained you were too busy working and wasn't eating enough but now you are so fat trying to do what the doctor said, but how come you grew so fat now, is it because you had to create time to eat or your only ate what you felt would be best for you or will I say you created time to eat what the the Doctor never told you to eat. Please do me a favour and save the sermon for another day.

Whatever is your excuse or ‘reason’ you need to start knowing that excuses will only worsen your health status. So knock if off! You will not get better with excuses. Take the responsibility for your own health. Stop blaming the doctor, your kids or your job. It is all about you being a little bit more vigilant and determined to save your own life and believe it or not with all these excuses, you will begin to eat emotionally, stuffing a lot of chocolate, binging at any opportunity.

Seeking solace in food is the worst thing you can do for your mode. Exercises will put you in a better frame of mind and will also make you look very fit and fabulous so my advice is, exercise more and eat less.

Are All Natural weight Loss Plans Beneficial to Your Health?

Are you wondering if all natural weight loss plans sound almost too good to be true or not. Is it even possible to lose weight, look and feel great without being forced into an unnatural diet or without taking dangerous drugs?

Well, if you want to lose weight, you need to have a plan. You have to set some goals and pursue them and remember you have to be patient because there is no such a thing as fast weight loss. You cannot take a pill and expect to get rid of all the fat deposits in a matter of weeks or months. Your body just doesn't work this way.

Here is a simple plan for you to follow in order to lose weight safely and effective:

1. Exercise.

This of cause is nothing new really, but exercise is probably the most important predictor of whether you will succeed at long term weight loss and weight loss maintenance. In order for exercise to be helpful in weight loss, you should strive for a minimum of five 30-minute sessions per week. The good news is that recent research has shown that three 10-minute sessions in a day are as good as one 30-minute session.

The whole idea of exercising for weight loss is to burn more calories, although exercise offers many other benefits as well. How many calories you burn depends on the frequency, duration and intensity of your activities.

Even though regularly scheduled aerobic exercises are best for losing fat, any extra physical activity helps burn calories. And since lifestyle-related activities may be easier to fit into your day, you should think about ways you can increase your physical effort. For example, make several trips up and down stairs instead of using the elevator, park at the far end of the lot and walk instead of taking the bus.

2. Stay focused on being healthy and not on becoming thin.

Trying to lose weight in order for you to be thin is quite bad and can be unrealistic because if you decide to starve yourself and avoid eating food that are meant to help you maintain good health and keep the body strong then you are risking your life. The thing is that many people become more successful at long-term weight loss when their motivation changes from wanting to be thinner to wanting to be healthier. Change your mindset to think about selecting foods that will help your body's health rather than worrying about foods that will affect your body's weight. The Food Pyramid offers a basic outline of the types and amounts of food you should eat each day to give your body the nutrients it needs for optimal health.

Adopting a new eating style that promotes weight loss must include lowering your total calorie intake. But decreasing calories doesn't mean giving up taste, satisfaction or even ease of meal preparation. One way you can lower your calorie intake is by eating more plant-based foods - fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Strive for variety to help you achieve your goals without giving up taste or nutrition.

3. If you have to use any weight loss pills, avoid those advertised as "fat burners" or other nonsense of this kind.

The thing is that there are plant extracts out there that can help you reduce the sensation of hunger and bind some of the fat in your meals so you get the benefit of a relaxed approach and positive attitude. But remember that a good attitude is essential for your success.

A good attitude can help you have patience and not try to see fast results. Fast weight loss will only result in gaining back all the fat and even more than you bargained for.

All natural weight loss plans are just the best ways for you to achieve your goals and also look fabulous so stick to them.
